PROJECTS

1º INTRODUCTION.
Technology produces objects and systems to solve our problems and satisfy our needs.
Technology works like a system where there are INPUT elements, a PROCESS, a OUTPUT elements and a FEEDBACK when the solution doesn´t fit well with the initial idea.
To manufacture an object, you need to follow an organised creation process as well as having knowledge of a variete of techniques.

These are the stages of technological processes:
1º NEED.  Analyse the need or problem and the possible constraints. Study similar cases and their solutions (background).

2º IDEA.  Propose one or several solutions. Agree and choose the best solution of the group.
The elements (INPUT) of technological processes are:
  • Knowledge of physical and scientific concepts.
  • Technical drawing to transmit the idea of an object.
  • Materials and their properties.
  • Working Techniques (procedures)
  • Economic considerations.

3º DESIGN: Sketch your layout and Describe your Process. Prepare plans and measurements. Choose the necesary tools, materials and labour. Prepare a time frame and plan the construction.

4º CONSTRUCTION.  It is easy to make an object if the process is planned correctly. If you have a good design and plan correctly, construction will be quicker and more efficient.  Before constructing the object, decide how to make each piece. Decide how to join the next piece before you constuct it.  To protect our health we have to follow rules when we are in the workshop. Tools and machines can be dangerous if we don´t use them properly. Herea are some general safety rules:
  • Tell your teacher if you have any kind of accident.
  • Clean and tidy the workstation at any time.
  • Ask your teacher if you have any douths.
  • Don´t waste materials and look alfter your tools.
  • Find out how to use each types of tool-machine before you start.

5º CHECK and FEEDBACK: Describe your object. If you change the desing during the construction process, you must report this in a modification plan. Evaluate and write the final report about the outcome.

2º PROJECTS TO DO YOUR SELF:
Now you are going to do differente projects in the workshop. Here you are a template to complete when you finish a project. Copy it into your notebook and complete the differents parts acording with your knowledge: REPORT
Realize that working in groups is not always easy. You have to be professional, collaborative and respectful, and try to resolve conflicts through dialogue and reasoning.

EACH STUDENT HAS TO COMPLETE INDIVIDUALLY
THE FOLLOWING REPORT IN HIS NOTEBOOK:

1º. – (5 marks) The OUTCOME and the establishment.
Write down in your notebook the classmate in charge of the following activities:
    a) SPOKESPERSON and STORE BOX:
    b) TOOLS and MATERIALS:
    c) CLEANING, TABLE and CHAIRS:
2º.-  (3 marks) SKETCH your layout:
       a) (1mark) Draw in SCALE the set. What are its exterior measurements? (height, width and depth, expressed in centimeters)
        b)  (1mark) Draw the three views of the object (front, plan, right view).
       c) (1mark)  Label the parts and the materials (wood, card, cardboard, timber, stick of pine, etc.) with several special details in enlarging scale. Draw the circuits and label theirs components.
3º. - (1mark) DESCRIBE THE PROCESS (lines step by step the process to make this Project):
Fill in the following Process Table: planning task set, distributes the task (each student an activity), calculate the run time and the necessary tools.
    Gantt Diagram:
    Task:
    Resources and tools:
    1ªhr
    2ªhr
    3ªhr
    10ª

    3.-

4º. – (1mark) DESCRIBE THE OBJECT: What shape is it? How many pieces make up the object? How are the pieces joined? What is this object used for? What are its different pieces for? How does it work? What difficult do you find? Was the feedback necessary?

     PROJECTS:
1.-PROJECT: Desing and make a PROMOTIONAL ROTATING DISK.
    De TECHNOLOGY

2.-PROJECT:  Design and make one of the folowing SECURITY SIGNS to remind others in the workshops how to work safely.
    • a) Compulsory to use glasses (a blue-circle is obligatory to use the correct type of protection to avoid accidents).
    • b) Warn that there is danger of fire (a yelow-triangle warn of possible dangers when you use certain materials or tools)
    • c) Compulsory not running (a red-circle forbid certain activities that put at riks your health and of others).

3.-PROJECT: Desing and make a SET SQUARE of wood.

a)Advice: Provided it is well finished it will look good. It is important to mark the centre holes properly before any cutting is done.
    De TECHNOLOGY

    b) Process:
1º. -  MARK OUT with rules and pencils. I´m able to use a screwdriver or another shape tool for making out over the wood.
2º.-  CUT the wood with the Jib-Saw. Cut the holes using a Chisel.
3º .- SHARPE the holes with the Jib-Saw and SMOOTH the material.

    3.-PROJECT: Desing and make a 3DIMENSIONAL MODEL:

    De TECHNOLOGY

3.-PROJECT: Desing and make a BOX from a piece of card. Some examples:LINK HERE and click over the link "NET" on the left-up of the page for look for your choise.
4.- PROJECT: Desing and make a PENCIL_CASE: enlace.
5.- PROJECT: Desing and make a WOOD BOX: enlace.
    • a) The package is going to be made from wood instead of other materials, explains why do you think that it is the better option for.
    • b)  The vinegar bottle is made of glass. Describe the basic properties of this material; do you know how it is manufactured of?
    • c) What should be done with the leftover material of this Project to take care the environment?

12.- PROJECT: Desing and make a POLYSTIRENE OBJECT.

    DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:

The design and construction of models and prototypes are two very important stages in manufacturing. The stages allow us to evaluate the suitability of an idea before, for example, beginning to produce the item in series.
In this year of study, making models out of different types of plastic gives students the
chance not only to develop their abilities and their creativity, but also to practise their skills in using the tools available in the classroom/workshop.
Students work in pairs or groups of three. This helps them to develop an understanding of the importance of teamwork, and also allows them to gain confidence in their own ideas and to develop their own style.
By following the technology project methodology, students can apply the basic techniques required for working with plastics. Therefore, it is essential that the students have at least elementary knowledge of basic descriptive geometry and geometric drawing, as well as of different types of plastic and techniques for working with them.

    METHODOLOGY:
During the activity, it is essential to follow procedures in a methodical way, and to take into account basic principles of health and safety.
    • The students should read and follow these instructions:
    • Keep hands clean and dry.
    • Wear clothing that is comfortable, but not too loose, as it could get caught in machinery.
    • Tie back long hair.
    • Understand the operating instructions for each tool and piece of machinery you will use.
    • Use the correct tool for each task.
    • Check that tools are in perfect working order. Check that handles are protected and secure.
    • Have a specific task to complete. Work carefully and avoid distractions.
    • Take special care when you use pointed or sharp tools to prevent cuts and other injuries. Be very careful when you use adhesives
